A First and a Pie

The main focus of my cooking today is definitely the peach pie, but I also wanted to note that I grilled my own burger for the first time in my life. In a house full of guys (Dad, Zach, Cameron), I NEVER get to use the grill. And honestly, I'm not complaining about that. But since I love burgers way more than I should, I was really excited to make my own burger for once. Turned out well, but it was definitely kind of daunting. I think I'll be sticking with baking instead of grilling for the most part, but I'm proud of myself.

Now, the pie. My dad went to the farmers market yesterday, which always means peaches. We had bought a pie crust last weekend, but ended up making two cobblers instead of a pie, so we had those left over. The pie that came out was maybe one of the best pies/things I've ever made. I'm not really sure if it's even possible for it to have been tastier.

A peak before it goes in the oven:

Doesn't look too special, but it definitely was!

When: September 4, 2011
Difficulty: Easy
Main Ingredients: Peaches, Sugar, Pie Crust
Time: about 15 minutes after you've pealed the peaches, with a 40 minute cook time
Perfect for: A summer dessert
For the body: Not good. Not at all.
Special Notes: I added one thing to the recipe below, which was sugar on top of the pie crust. Any time I add egg yolk to a dough before sticking it in the over, I'm tempted to sprinkle sugar on top. This time, I gave in to my temptations. I don't know if that made a huge difference, but this is a new fave.

Blueberry Tart

One of the first recipes I came upon on Pinterest was for a Blueberry Tart, and since my love for Pinterest has led me to starting this blog, I found it only appropriate that my first post be that Blueberry Tart! My dad loves blueberries, and my mom loves anything good for the body (and especially the brain) so blueberries fit the bill! Plus, the incredible rain today made it the perfect day to stay inside and bake. Lastly, the fact that it is Labor Day weekend and the weather lately has made it quite clear that summer is on the way out. Blueberries have such a summer feel, so I had to get this in while I could. I also feel a peach pie coming in the very near future...

When: September 3, 2011 Difficulty: Easy Main Ingredients: Blueberries, Cream Cheese, Puff Pastry Time: Probably just under an hour Perfect for: Light summer snack or dessert For the body: I like to think the fact that the blueberries are so great for you balances out the amount of sugar, pastry and fat in this recipe Special Notes: Definitely use a blender for this one, unless you want a real work out. However, this is an incredibly easy recipe that comes out looking like it was done by a pro!
